Hall of Fame Inducts Nine Outstanding Alumni

On October 2, nine outstanding Galion Alumni were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Family, friends and guests in attendance celebrated the lives of nine amazing individuals including Mr. Richard E. Chandler Jr., Miss A. Elaine Hottenroth, Dr. Steven R. Myers, Mr. Daniel R. Ritchey, Col. Paul Kurtz Robinson Jr. USAF Ret., Dr. Douglas F. Smith, Mr. Eugene ‘Vic' Smith, Mr. William (Bill) Stepro (although not an alum of Galion, Bill has been a beloved teacher here in Galion for the past 42 years) and Mr. Jerry Tischer - posthumously.

This night was also made special by the heartfelt words shared by Nikki Paluga during the keynote address.  The common theme among all of the honorees, in addition to their many achievements, was their desire to give back, and to use their accomplishments to better their community and the lives of others.

The Synergy Committee, organizers of the Connections Weekend for the Galion City Schools, is requesting nominations for the Galion City Schools Hall of Fame.  The Galion Alumni Association, a member of the Synergy Committee, is coordinating this nomination process.

Many of our current students are not aware of the success many Galion graduates have had after they complete their education here in Galion.  All of the organizations that make up the Synergy Committee agree that students need to be aware of the opportunities available to them and the great accomplishments made by many of our graduates.

If you know of a Galion alumni, or staff member that has been retired for at least two years who has made an indelible mark on their community or in their field, you may nominate them for the Hall of Fame.  It's not too early to nominate potential inductees for 2011. Nominating forms are available online at the Galion City Schools website at www.galionschools.org, or the Galion Alumni Website at www.galionalumni.com.  Nominations can be submitted by mail to the Galion Alumni Association at P.O. Box 22, Galion, OH 44833, or taken to any of these locations; the Galion City Schools Administrative office, the Galion Area Chamber of Commerce office, or Uptowne Outfitters. For more information call the Galion Board of Education at 419-468-3432.
