2024 Hall of Fame 

 The 2024 Hall of Fame Banquet and inductee presentations will be held on October 12, 2024. Do you know a Galion High School Graduate that deserves recognition for outstanding accomplishments in their careers and communities?  Please fill out a nomination form for that individual to be considered for that honor.  Nominating forms are due by June 1, 2024.  Click on the banner below to print out the nominating criteria and and form.  Provide as much information as possible, but most importantly nominate some one you feel is deserving of recognition.

Connections Weekend Planning Meeting                     May 17, 2017

 

Agenda

 

In Attendance:  Kyle Baughn, Terry Gribble, Miranda Jones, Joe Kleinknecht, Rick Maddox, Steve Melchoir, Sandy Powell, Dave Spraw, Marilyn Stepro, Sarah Wegesin & Andee Wildenthaler, 

 

Financial Report - Treasury balance $18,278.11 and Synergy Investment balance  $23,993.93;

 

Review of Minutes - April minutes were approved  (motion - Steve, second - Rick);

 

Committee Updates:

 

Bonfire/Pep Rally - October 5th @ 6:50 pm; the bonfire will remain at the Heise Park practice field; still waiting for approval of Donley Ford's test-drive campaign;

 

Pancake Breakfast - Kiwanis is ready to host the event at the Intermediate School 7:00 - 11:00 am; entertainment needs to be coordinated w/Leader in Me participants and Jim Grubbs; Kyle is still waiting for approval of Donley Ford's test-drive campaign to be held at the district parking area;

 

Alumni Band - Still planning on participation at Bonfire & Homecoming Night;

 

Hall of Fame Nominations - Have nominations submitted by June 15th, Review of Applications Monday, June 21st, following the monthly planning meeting; possible recipients -Horace Freese, Keith Houk, Paul Kim, Arthur Poister, Matt Smith, Van Wagner, John Swain;  Jim will have the previous nominations forms on file scanned for committee use; after reviewing the files, the following HOF applications remain - Submitted in 2017: Richard Edward Powers - Class of 1951, Arthur Poister - Class of 1916, Submitted in 2016; Judy Beers - Retired Educator (deceased), Submitted in 2015: Richard E. Powers - Class of 1951, John L. Swain - Class of 1955, Submitted in 2014: Terry Covert Williams - Class of 1975, Submitted in 2013:  Richard E. Powers - Class of 1951 and Joan Bradner - Class of 1947, Submitted in 2012: Michael A. Evans - Class of 1978, Linda Kidwell - Class of 1976, Dr. Sandra Powell - Class of 1972, Richard E. Powers - Class of 1951, Chad Scott - Class of 1990, Cindy Voss - Class of 1979, Submitted in 2010: Jo Swain - Class of 1956;

 

Dinner Banquet - October 7th @ 6:30 pm; doors open for seating @ 6:00 pm; Marilyn has coordinated catering w/AVITA; price will be $35 per person; same table arrangements will be used this year (J. Denoon & C. Alguire preparing);

 

Fund Raising - Kyle reported that Jim discussed the new auditorium project with the school board on May 2nd; this $6 million project will be discussed further at the June School Board Meeting;

 

Program - Dave will again lead this project; A1 Printing was recommended as the printer again for this year's ceremony; also solicitation letters, prepared by the Superintendent, need to be distributed by early July;

 

Awards - Dave also suggested using Dean's Trophy House (Bucyrus) again this year for the Hall of Fame plaques; Miranda contacted Schillings for the award crystal and token gift for the speakers (will determine August); Kyle shared that the existing HOF plaques will be moved to a more public location in the HS and allow for more display space;

 

Career Day - Sandy & Sarah agreed to help Jen Allerding with speaker recruitment contacts for the morning of October 6th; Jen should contact them for a common meeting time to support her efforts;

 

New Business - Sarah shared that the Leader In Me students would like to be incorporated into the weekend, will discuss further in June; Terry & Miranda will chair the 5K race planning; Miranda shared the Chambers "Third Friday Events" and suggested the possibility of a booth in August to promote the Connections Weekend;

 

Next Meeting Date - Wednesday, June 21st @ 7:30 am @ the Galion Schools Administrative Center;

 

Adjourn - Meeting adjourned @ 8:00 am (motion - Terry, second - Marilyn);
