2024 Hall of Fame 

 The 2024 Hall of Fame Banquet and inductee presentations will be held on October 12, 2024. Do you know a Galion High School Graduate that deserves recognition for outstanding accomplishments in their careers and communities?  Please fill out a nomination form for that individual to be considered for that honor.  Nominating forms are due by June 1, 2024.  Click on the banner below to print out the nominating criteria and and form.  Provide as much information as possible, but most importantly nominate some one you feel is deserving of recognition.

Connections Weekend Planning Agenda                                          4/25/2018

 

In Attendance: Jen Allerding, Kyle Baughn, Crystal Ebner, Terry Gribble,Jim Grubbs, Joe Kleinknecht,  Steve Melchior, Sandy Powell, Dave Spraw& Teresa Troiano

 

Financial Report: Dave reported that the investment account hasapproximately $31,000 and the checking account total is $15,080. The income from the investment account was $543.73 and was rolled back into the investment account; Terry moved and Steve seconded the finance report;

 

Review of Minutes: Steve Melchoir moved to approve minutes from January10th and Jim seconded;

 

Committee Updates:

Bonfire/Pep Rally - The 2018 Connections Weekend will be October 11- 13th; Booster Club will host a hot dog fundraiser; the Pep Rally event will begin @ 6:45 pm;

 

Pancake Breakfast - Joe announced that the Kiwanis has coordinated with Food Service to use the Intermediate School on Saturday morning 10/13;

 

Alumni Band - Will continue in 2018; a news release will be generated soon regarding the Alumni Band rehearsal;

 

Hall of Fame Nominations - For 2018, applications will be accepted beginning March 1st and the deadline for applications is June 1st. Paul Kim is already approved for 2018, Horace Freese & George Guins were also recommended.  Mr. Egbert Freese also has application information on file.The Selection Committee will meet by June 15th. Hezzie Chorba may also be nominated, he works in Hollywood as an animator; Ed Snyder may also be in the nomination group as former Galion educator; NEW entry (found in the files afterthe meeting) Michael Jokerst, posthumously, class of 1975, nominated by BIll Mechling. Mike was VP of Productivity Optimization @ Nationwide Insurance & Principal of CFO Leadership Consulting in Columbus.

 

Dinner Banquet - Sandy contacted Pioneer Culinary Arts Program but they were unable to help us in October; AVITA was then contacted and Sandy will continue to work w/Wade Cramer, selecting menus in July;

 

Fund Raising & Promotion - Jim recommended that a database be developed of all previous Hall of Fame honorees to include contact information; a new letter will be developed for past HOF honorees encouraging their support (also see notes in the New Business section);

 

Program - Dave will coordinate w/the committee members to build the program as in previous years;

 

Awards - Miranda will coordinate awards with Schillings again this fall and Dave will again arrange with Dean's Trophies;

 

Career Day - October 12th will be this year's Career Day at the Middle School; Jen already has new names for the fall MS speakers; Sam Maddox and Heather Shifley were recommended; Joe also recommended having military representatives speak to the students;

 

Capital Planning Updates - Jim announced working with MKC Architect Group for designs as part of the maintenance/ transportation move to the campus and the expansionof athletic facilities on campus; Jim shared that construction bids will possibly be going out later this year;

 

New Business - Jim recommended Beth Rutledge as part-time support to help with coordination of the Connection Weekend activities - Duties to include: building a current data-base of past recipients and sponsors; maintaining the Hall of Fame files; scanning and electronically storing the historical files; make phone calls to remind local business sponsors; help with minutes and support of the Hall of Fame dinner and securing the biographies for the Hall of Fame Evening Program; Jim moved and Steve seconded the $1000 donation from the Alumni Association to support this new position; Crystal Ebner and Teresa Troiano discussed having a "Fun-Run" during the school day for elementary students at the Stadium on Friday, October 12th of Connections 'Weekend; a promotional newsletter will be distributed to families in the beginning of the next school year; Crystal and Teresa will continue to attend our committee meetings for updates in their planning process;

 

Next Meeting - Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018 @ 7:30 am @ the GalionSchools' Administrative Center.

 

Meeting adjourned @ 8:25 am.
