2024 Membership Drive Letter Dear Galion Alumn, The Galion Alumni Association is looking at forward to a year of renewal in 2024. New Alumni Board members have been installed and are ready to move the organization forward. Meghan Tyrell is the new President with Sarah Wegesin as Vice President and Kelly Phelps as Secretary. Steve Melchior remains as Treasurer until a permanent replacement can be identified. You are encouraged to offer your suggestions as to what you would like the Association to offer to members and to consider personally participating as a board member. A membership form can be printed here Membership in 2023 was at 134 dues paying members, of which 92 are Lifetime Members. Most of our annual members are individuals or couples that maintain their memberships year after year. We would like to encourage those members that are local to participate by attending the monthly meetings and participating in the activities of the Alumni Association. Alumni Association information and activity updates may be found either on the Galion Alumni Association website or Facebook page. Galion Alumni Association 2023 Update Income: The sale of 300 Club Tickets was once again our most successful fund raiser with all of the tickets being sold. This brought in $6,000.00 with $3000.00 of that awarded to drawing winners. How does it work? At each home game during football and basketball seasons, two tickets are drawn to determine winners of $100.00 each. Those tickets are then returned to the container and are eligible for future drawings during the season. Membership dues provided the other source for revenue for 2023 which were down significantly from previous years and provided $835.00 in revenue. The balance of our income was attributed to donations $215.00 and dividend income of $343.00 Total income for 2023 was $7,493.82. Expense: The Alumni association Sponsored an ad ($250.00) in the Sports programs, an ad ($100.00) in the Performing Arts Program and a Sponsorship Package ($2,500.00) for Connections Weekend. Donations were made to the Junior Prom Parents Committee ($200.00) and the Middle School Spooktackular Event ($100.00). Expense Items this year included $78.00 for Post Office Box fees. 300 Club drawing winners and ticket printing costs and donation to Boosters club for holding the drawings totaled $2,806.87 ($ 200.00 of the $3,000.00 prize money was donated back by winners). Fees for our 2024 website hosting were $323.88. Total expenses for year totaled $ 6,583.75. The Galion Alumni Association continues to be a participating member of the Connections Weekend Committee. This Committee is responsible for the production of the Galion Connections Weekend which will be held October 10-12, 2024. The Alumni Association plays a large role in the Hall of Fame event and encourages the submission of nominations for Galion High School graduates that deserve recognition. Nominations for the 2024 Hall of Fame inductees are due by June 1, 2024. The Connections Weekend Committee maintains a file of nominations submitted, but not selected from previous years for future consideration. All of the Connections Weekend events are open to the public and are not restricted strictly to Alumni. We encourage your participation in these events. The Connections Weekend is intended to serve as a fund raising vehicle to provide funds for building a Performing Arts Center on the Galion City Schools Campus. This is an extremely ambitious undertaking and will continue to be a priority project in 2024. This will be a multi-million dollar project and will require some large donors to step forward. Planning is in process for providing funding for this large project and The Alumni Association is committed to providing any support possible to help accomplish an acceptable end result. There will be a strong effort to identify other projects that would be of benefit to the Galion City School district and its' students. You are encouraged to visit the Galion Alumni Association Facebook Page or the Galion Alumni Association website.
