Were You There?    -   Alumni Weekend 2007

The second Annual Alumni Weekend was a terrific success.  Starting with the vintage women's baseball game at 11:00 a.m., to the final picnic clean up, all of the activities were well attended and greatly enjoyed

The Galion Lady Gems were victorious in the first "vintage" women's baseball game.  Playing the rules of the 1860's and in long skirts, the Galion ladies were victorious, winning 15 to 7, over the visitors from Ohio Village.  At 3:00 p.m., the Galion Orangemen took the field and avenged last year's loss by beating the Ohio Village Muffins 21 to 15.  A good crowd watched both games and learned how the game has changed over 125 years.

At 3:30, the flag was officially lowered at the "old" high school.  Nearly 100 alumni and community members were at this ceremony. Master of Ceremonies Brian Treisch introduced 2007 Graduate Ashleigh Ogborn who gave a short speech.  The class of 2007 is the last class to graduate from the building at the corner of Church and Union Streets.  Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 304 assisted in lowering of the colors.  Folowing the brief ceremony, many alumni took a tour of the old high school.

At 5:00 p.m., tours of the new building began.  The near unanimous comments about the this building were "It's beautiful!". Over 300 toured the not quite ready building.  The building will be ready for students in August,  Formal dedication of the building on August 19, 2007 beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The picnic began at 6:30 p.m.  Galion graduate Aaron Bayles led an invocation.  Cooks Joe Kleinknecht, Bill Durtschi, Brenda Clinger and others served hot dogs and beverages.  The Galion Alumni Band entertained for about 30 minutes.  The quilt raffle drawing was won by Jerusha (Manely) Walker.  Door prizes were donated by Uptowne Outfitters, Home Elements, The Evergreen Company, The Galion Area Chamber of Commerce and the Galion Community Theater.  Nearly 70 alumni attended the picnic and shared a great time.  A big thanks to all who helped put this even together.

Plans are starting for next years event.  Hope to see you there.
