Minutes

April 21st, 2008

Attendance: Steve Melchior, Sue Jarvis, Bill Durtschi, Joe Kleinknecht, Brian Treisch

President Brian Tresich called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

The Agenda was approved with flexibility. The minutes were read and approved. (Treisch/Kleinknecht)

It was reported that there are 64 paid memberships for this year, not including life time memberships. Couples are counted as one membership. Galion graduates for 2008 will receive one year membership as a gift from the Association. Sue Jarvis will work on getting the graduation list.

A motion to allocate money left over from the entryway project for assisting with landscaping the new campus was made by Joe Kleinchnecht and seconded by Sue Jarvis. Other uses may be assisting with the new memory garden and starting a fine arts capital fund. The motion was approved. Joe will contact Linda Kidwell.

Brian Treisch reported for Jim Hart that at this time 6 teams have been lined up for the Alumni Basketball tournament scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend. The games will be played May 23rd and 24th. Officials have been scheduled and Brian will contact Photorama about an advertising banner.

Joe Kleinchnecht has scheduled the Alumni Picnic for Aug. 9th. The Ohio Village Muffins will be letting Joe know if they are available for games that weekend. There may also be a girls softball game scheduled. The shelter house at Heise Park has been reserved.

Upcoming events were announced. May 4th is the Campus Wide Dedication. Besides the Memorial Day Weekend Basketball tournament and the Alumni Summer Picnic, Homecoming for the 2008-2009 school year is Oct. 10th.

A motion was made by Bill Durtschi and seconded by Steve Melchior to put an ad in the Galion Community Guide. This guide will be mailed to all addresses within the 44833 zipcode.

The Alumni Banquet was discussed at length. The event will be chaired by Brian Treisch. He will be contacting Fritz Caudle, principal of the Galion High School for possible use of the cafetorium for the event during Homecoming Weekend.

Several ideas were discussed concerning ways the Alumni Association can support the students and staff of the Galion City School System. Mentoring Programs, Fine Arts Programs, and reinstituting the Alumni Hall of Fame were a few of these ideas discussed. Brian will meet with Kathy Jenney to go over some of these ideas.

By-laws and mission statement was discussed and changes were proposed that will be presented to the membership at the Alumni Banquet in October.

The following people have been asked to serve on the board by appointment through October of 2008: Doug Schilling, Jim Hart, Bob Durtschi, Lee Anne Shiifley, Terry Shifley, and Kathy Jenney. An election will take place at the General Membership Banquet in October.

The next regular meeting of the executive board will be May 19th, 2008 at the Varsity Grille.
