Nominations Requested for Hall of Fame
Thursday, 05 March 2009
The Galion Alumni Association, in cooperation with the Galion Community Education Foundation, the Galion Booster Club, the Galion City Schools, the Galion Tiger Alumni Band, and the Galion Community Foundation, is seeking nominations for the Galion Schools Hall of Fame. This Hall of Fame is to honor those Galion graduates and former Galion educators who have made a significant contribution to their community or their field. The selected Hall of Fame members will be introduced and honored at a special recognition dinner on Saturday, September 26, 2009. This fund raising dinner will both honor the Hall of Fame inductees and launch the preliminary studies for a arts and athletic facility at the Galion City Schools campus.

Nominating forms are available here on the website, at the Galion City Schools Administrative Center, the Galion Area Chamber of Commerce office, or at Uptowne Outfitters. Nominations must be submitted to the Galion Alumni Association at any of these locations no later than May 1, 2009.  Forms printed from the website should be mailed by that date to:

  • Galion Alumni Association
  • P.O. Box 22
  • Galion, OH   44833

“We are looking for Galion graduates who have made significant contributions to their communities or to their respective field,” said Alumni Association president Brian Treisch. “Many of our current students are not aware of the success many Galion graduates have had after they complete their education here in Galion. All of the organizations agree that students need to be aware of the opportunities out there and the great accomplishments made by many of our graduates.”

The recognition dinner is part of a homecoming celebration being planned by the cooperative efforts of the Galion City Schools, the Galion Community Education Foundation, the Galion Alumni Association, the Galion Booster Club, the Galion Tiger Alumni Band, and the Galion Community Foundation. Representatives of all of these organizations have formed a synergy committee to work on this project and to identify other areas in which combined organizations can cooperate. “There is common ground yet very separate areas of focus for each of these organizations,” said Treisch. “It is vital that we work together when a common cause can be identified.

More details of the events planned for this special weekend and awards dinner will be made public as the date comes closer. Tentative plans for this weekend include a career day, featuring Galion graduates talking about their careers on Friday, a golf tournament to raise funds for the planning study, Alumni Band Night at the football game, and the aforementioned dinner.
