Celebrating 55 Years

Forty four members of the Galion High School Class of 1954 gathered for a fun filled weekend to celebrate 55 years since graduation.  The festivities began on Friday evening with an informal gathering at Pizza Hut. There they enjoyed a pizza and salad buffet and renewed old acquaintances.

Saturday morning, members of the class were treated to a tour of the new high school, by their tour guide Brian Treisch. Royce Hutchinson had the opportunity to play a couple of numbers on the piano that he so often played while he was in high school. Classmates enjoyed a round of golf in the afternoon.

On Saturday evening, a dinner was held at the Galion Country Club. The dessert was provided by Phyllis (Menges) Morgan who was unable to attend. Beautiful programs, name tags and and several mementos were donated by Royce Hutchinson.

Dick Hottenroth served as the master of ceremonies for the evenigs program. A candle light ceremony was conducted by Edith (Halsey) Shroll and Phyllis (Dye) Eusey in memory of the twenty deceased members of the class.

Upon entering the Country Club, the classmates were given a map of Uptowne Galion as it appeared in 1954 along with a list of the stores that occupied each space.  The challenge was to fill in the blanks matching the names to the storefronts.  a Game of "Name That Tune" led by Faye (Rehler) Rasmussen with Hutchinson at the piano, playing the songs of the 1950's.  Each winner was awarded a prize donated by Rasmussen.

a sing-a-long followed with Ken and Edith Shroll, Marlene (McCoy) Jewett and Rasmussen leading the group.

A Sunday morning brunch was hosted at the St. Joseph Activity Center by classmates Dick Foos, Harry Weir, Dick Hottenroth, Bob Ritzhaupt and John Harsh, who proved to be very capable chefs.
