Connections Weekend Planning Committee                       January 18, 2017

In Attendance:  Jen Allerding, Kyle Baughn, Jim Grubbs, Joe Kleinknecht, Rick Maddox, Steve Melchoir, Tom O'leary, Sandy Powell, Dave Spraw & Sarah Wegesin

Jim Grubbs opened the meeting @ 7:35 am.  Thanked everyone for their attendance and willingness to serve on the committee.

Financial Report - Dave announced that the Galion Community Foundation is still willing to support as the fiscal agent for the committee; 

Review Minutes - initial meeting for the year, will review minutes next meeting;

 Committee Updates:

a.     Bonfire/Pep Rally - Sarah shared a concern about lighting and sound at the bonfire this past fall;  Kyle wants to improve on the bonfire prep coordination looking at possible new sites; committee members were pleased with the details that Kyle addressed at last year's bonfire;

b.     Pancake Breakfast - Joe Kleinknecht offered to co-chair the Kiwanis pancake breakfast again;

c.     Alumni Band Night - report at February committee meeting;

d.    Hall of Fame Nominations - begin setting dates for nomination process at the February Meeting and bring names of potential nominees for 2017;

e.     Dinner/Banquet - Sandy will continue to help with banquet details and will check with Marilyn Stepro before the next meeting;

f.     Fund Raising - held for future meeting;

g.    Program - Dave is still willing to prepare and edit the program for 2017;  he would like to see the nominees' biographies prepared in a more timely manners;

h.     Awards - will discuss with Schilling representative at a future meeting;

i.      Career Day - Jen would like to have committee support with alumni participation at the Career Day; Sarah and Sandy agreed to help identify potential alumni speakers if Jen could provide the names of the most recent Career Day participants as a resource;

Status of Design Update - Jim announced that a representative contacted him from the OSFC with an update of extending OSFC funding to support districts wanting to build performing arts centers.  Interested districts would need to support this construction with matching funds.  More news to come.

Other Business - Steve would like to see a link on the district's web site for the Galion Alumni Association (was previously linked); Joe also suggested bringing back a 5K run for the Saturday morning; Rick shared that he will still be available to support the committee even if he is not the president of the Ministerial Association in 2017; Tom inquired about the "Leader in Me" program and the interaction with parents, also offered continued support from city departments;

Next Meeting - February 15th @ 7:30 am at the Administration Center;
