Connections Weekend Planning Committee August 14, 2019 Meeting Notes: Attendance - Terry Gribble, Jim Grubbs, Joe Kleinknecht, Cheri Laughbaum, Steve Melchior, Cathy Moneysmith, Sandy Powell, Dave Spraw, Brian Treisch and Ash Welch. Financial Report - Cathy Moneysmith reported that the Synergy account has $21,589.99 and the investment fund w/Ed Jones has $21,369.60. 2019 sponsors are as follows: $50 from Vic Smith, $251 from United Bank, $300 from Jeff Kirk - Dostal & Kirk Insurance & Financial Services, $300 First Federal Savings & Loan, $250 from Hottenroth,Garverick,Tilson & Garverick Co., LPA, $500 from the Galion Community Education Foundation; $250 from Galion Building & Loan, $2,100 from the Galion Alumni Association and $250 from Donley Ford. Committee Updates Bonfire/Pep Rally - Will occur Thursday evening, October 3rd. Elementary Tiger Dash will run in the afternoon of October 3rd at the stadium; also a PBJ 5K will occur on October 5th - details to come. Pancake Breakfast - Is planned for October 5th from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, Jim Gerstenslager has offered to coordinate the car show which will run from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. Joe and Brian will speak with Jim about details prior to the next meeting; Alumni Band Performance - The band will participate in the October 3rd Rehearsal and October 4th @ Homecoming Game. Hall of Fame Nominations - The HOF inductees for 2019 - HAROLD "TUBBY" GARVERICK (55), HARRY GARVERICK (56), JAMES GARVERICK (58), JERRY JAMES (44), KEN JARVIS (65), JOE KLEINKNECHT (60), KELLIE ROWLAND (77), VICKI TRAPP (79) & KYLE ZEUCH (03). HOF Banquet - October 5, 2019 @ Galion MS; reception begins @ 6:00 p.m., dinner begins @ 6:30; AVITA will be catering; 8 people have registered for the banquet; Ash will provide the invocation and benediction for the ceremony. Fund Raising - See "other business" for the capital campaign discussion. Program - A1 Printing will continue to be the company used for 2019; Dave has received two photographs. Awards - Dave will be using Deans Trophy House for the 2019 Banquet. Career Day - Jim shared that Career Day will still happen for Grade 8 students at the Middle School and is working with the MS principal; HOF inductees have been invited to participate. Other Business - a Capital campaign committee meeting was held with Brian, Jim, Terry and Matt Smith. Since other campaigns will be occurring in the next couple of years (hospital & possible Rec. Center), careful consideration should be made on the time to raise funds for the GCS Auditorium. Terry updated that AVITA has asked Matt & Linda Smith to chair a hospital campaign. Matt's recommendation was to create a coordination team comprised of Terry Gribble, Jim Grubbs, Jerry Morasco, Brian Treisch and Tom O'leary to determine a long- range campaign calendar; Cheri Laughbaum shared the Galion Theater's interest in a new school auditorium. Jim inquired with other school districts and current costs for new auditoriums in the area is approximately $7 million; Brian shared that the city has created a Port Authority with donor commitments of $2 million for the new city Rec. Center; Jim reminded the group that the first architectural drawings can be available for review and redesign w/ new cost estimates attached. Brian offered to contact The Seckel Group and will keep us informed; Next Meeting - September 11th @ 7:30 a.m. @ the Administration Center. Meeting Adjourned @ 8:15 a.m. |
