Connections Weekend Planning Meeting                  September 26, 2019                                 

Meeting Notes

Attendance - Jennifer Allerding, Kyle Baughn, Terry GribbleJim Grubbs, Amy Heydinger, Joe Kleinknecht, Stacy Kuehlman, Steve Melchior, Sandy Powell, Dave Spraw & Paul Wheeler

Financial Report - Dave reported that the Synergy account has $21,589.99 and the investment fund w/Edward Jones has $21,369.60.  Dave shared that he will be depositing $1196 in new deposits since the September 11th meeting; Dave will be paying the Seckel Architect's Office for their services when an invoice is received.

Committee Updates

Bonfire/Pep Rally -  Will occur Thursday evening, beginning at 6:30 pm, October 3rd and will include, hot dogs from Booster Club, Youth Football & Cheerleaders welcoming the band and football team, introduction of home coming court, fall sports teams and Head Coach speech. The Galion Fire Department lights the Bon Fire to conclude the rally (see Kyle's handout).  Elementary Tiger Dash will run in the afternoon of October 3rd at the stadium.

Pancake Breakfast - Is planned for October 5th from 8:00 am to 11:00 am at the Intermediate School Cafetorium.  Sarah Wegesin has coordinated the student greeters/ entertainment with the various schools.

Alumni Band Performance - The band will participate in the October 3rd rehearsal and October 4th @ Homecoming Game.

Hall of Fame Nominations -  The HOF inductees for 2019 - HAROLD "TUBBY" GARVERICK (55), HARRY GARVERICK (56), JAMES GARVERICK (58), JERRY JAMES (44), KEN JARVIS (65), JOE KLEINKNECHT (60), KELLIE ROWLAND (77), VICKI TRAPP (79) & KYLE ZEUCH (03).

HOF Banquet - October 5, 2019 @ Galion MS; reception begins @ 6:00 p.m., dinner begins @ 6:30.  AVITA will be catering.  79 people have registered for the banquet, so there will be 15 tables set-up for the banquet for 90 people. student greeters will be available to assist guests before 6:00 pm. Sandy will send a reminder to MS principals and custodians. Jen Allerding will provide the welcome for the superintendent and Pastor Darrin Harvey will be giving the invocation and benediction.  Brian has contacted Ric Walker for the Alma Mater; 

Fund Raising -  Sponsorship has collected $4551. Our 2019 sponsors are as follows: $50 from Vic Smith, $251 from United Bank, $300 from Jeff Kirk - Dostal & Kirk Insurance & Financial Services, $300 First Federal Savings & Loan, $250 from Hottenroth, Garverick, Tilson & Garverick Co., LPA; $500 from the Galion Community Education Foundation; $250 from Galion Building & Loan; $2,100 from the Galion Alumni Association; $250 from Donley Ford; $300 from AVITA; $251 from Dr. Fellner's Office; $100 from the Kiwanis Club; $300 from Fireland's Credit Union and $200 from Freyman's Finishing Touch.

Program - A1 Printing will continue to be the company used for 2019; Dave has been receiving photographs and Bios for the program; still needing a photo from Harry Garverick, Dave will use a photo from the 1956 Spy.

Awards - Dave will be using Deans Trophy House for the 2019 Banquet. He has received all photos except for Harry Garverick (may use yearbook photo).  Miranda Jones will take individual photos the evening of the event.

Career Day - Amy Heydinger shared that Career Day will happen for Grade 8 students at the Middle School.  Several HOF inductees will participate as well as other professionals from the community.  The students will attend 6 different sessions during the morning of October 4th.

Other Business -  No new business at this meeting, but the dates for next year's Connections Weekend will be October 16 & 17, 2020.

Next Meeting -  October 23rd @ 7:30 a.m. @ the Administration Center.
