Connections Weekend Planning Committee                    October 23,2019

 

Meeting Notes

Attendance - Kyle Baughn, Terry GribbleJim Grubbs, Joe Kleinknecht, Steve Melchior, Sandy Powell, Dave Spraw & Brian Treisch

Financial Report - Dave reported that the Synergy account received $6257.30 in donations and $2167.39 in meal payments.  As of this meeting, $4612 was paid to vendors.  Dave is still waiting on a couple of invoices.  Dave will be paying the Seckel Architect's Office for their services when an invoice is received;  Brian recommended to move all but $15,000 from the Synergy checking account to the Synergy investment fund; Brian Treisch, moved this action and Dave Spraw seconded; motion carried.

Approve Minutes - Upon review of the September 26, 2019 minutes, Steve Melchoir moved for approval and Dave Spraw seconded; motion carried.

Committee Updates

Bonfire/Pep Rally -  All went well and the event was well attended.

Pancake Breakfast - Joe reported that approximately 150 breakfasts were served; attendance was slow after 10:00 am when student performances were completed; thanks to staff members' support w/student entertainment.

Alumni Band Performance - Brian shared that alumni were well represented.

Hall of Fame Nominations -the HOF inductees for 2019 - HAROLD "TUBBY" GARVERICK (55), HARRY GARVERICK (56), JAMES GARVERICK (58), JERRY JAMES (44), KEN JARVIS (65), JOE KLEINKNECHT (60), KELLIE ROWLAND (77), VICKI TRAPP (79) & KYLE ZEUCH (03).

HOF Banquet - Sandy reported that 88 meals were served; AVITA did a nice job with food preparation and Sandy Grau's class at Pioneer CTC did a nice job with the table centerpieces; participants always enjoy the MS servers as they do a nice job each year; will need to modify the PayPal system next year. 

Fund Raising -  Sponsorship has collected $4551; Our 2019 sponsors are as follows: $50 from Vic Smith, $251 from United Bank, $300 from Jeff Kirk - Dostal & Kirk Insurance & Financial Services, $300 First Federal Savings & Loan, $250 from Hottenroth, Garverick, Tilson & Garverick Co., LPA; $500 from the Galion Community Education Foundation; $250 from Galion Building & Loan; $2,100 from the Galion Alumni  Association; $250 from Donley Ford; $300 from AVITA; $251 from Dr. Fellner's Office; $100 from the Kiwanis Club; $300 from Fireland's Credit Union and $200 from Freyman's Finishing Touch.

Program - additional 2019 programs are in the file in Stacy Kuehlman's office.

Awards - Dave is waiting on Jerry James' repaired award and the wall plaques for the HS.

Career Day - Jim reported that principal Paul Wheeler would like to expand the Career Day to cover include more grade levels.

New Auditorium Project - Brian shared the first drawings of the redesigned auditorium project; Brian will follow-up with Mr. Seckel regarding today's questions pertaining to thrust stage, sufficient restroom stalls and additional seating space; a recommendation was made to visit other school auditoriums in the region (ie., Shelby, Ashland & Mansfield); contact Brian if you have an interest in making a visit.

Other Business -  Next year's dates for Connections Weekend will be October 16 & 17, 2020; Jim announced that the district's new part-time communications' coordinator is Kaitlyn Geiger.  Kaitlyn is a student at OSU-Mansfield; Dave will be preparing a letter to Chris Stone re: stipend received for 2019 Connections' Weekend work; Brian also shared a letter prepared for James Garverick requesting his participation in fundraising for the auditorium project.

Next Meeting -  No New Meeting was Scheduled.
