For Immediate Release

The Galion Tiger Alumni Band will take the field one more time on Friday, October 6 at the Galion vs. Upper Sandusky football game.  For almost 30 years the Alumni Band has made this annual appearance.

The band will rehearse on Sunday, September 17 and Sunday, September 24 to prepare music.  These rehearsals will be at 7:00 p.m. at the GHS band room.  The band will also rehearse on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. with the current edition of the GHS band.

The 2006 football season marks the 80th year for a marching band at Galion High School.  “The first band featured 26 young men under the direction of R. R. Earhart,” said Alumni Band director Brian Treisch. “The band has been marching along ever since.”

“Because we are marking the 80th anniversary, we hope to have as many alumni  as possible at the event,” said Treisch.  “The Galion Alumni Association will have a special tent at the game and we are planning a reception following the game at the Galion Elks for all former band alumni to get together.”  There will be a $5.00 membership fee for all that march or attend the reception.  “This will cover the refreshment cost and some music costs we have associated with Alumni Band Night,” said Treisch

Current band director Rick Walker is putting the final touches on the halftime show for this special performance.  “We are looking at a patriotic theme and some big sounds with the combined alumni and high school band,” said Walker.

Those planning to march should attend at least one music rehearsal.  If you plan to just attend the reception, contact Brian at 419-462-2209.

“All former band members should tell their friends about this,” said Treisch.  “It should be a great time.”
