Connections Weekend Planning Meeting                         July 28, 2021

 In Attendance:  Jen Allerding, Kyle Baughn, Joe Kleinknecht, Steve Melchoir, Melissa Miller, Sandy Powell, Dave Spraw and Brian Treisch

Financial Report - Synergy investments for the quarter ending on March 31st, 2021 were: $57,046 in the investment account w/Ed Jones Trust Co. and $8,886.79 in local checking account.

Approve Minutes - Thanks to Steve for bringing the June 22, 2021 minutes for approval.  Joe made motion to approve, Jen seconded, motion carries.

Connections Weekend Events for 2021

- Bonfire & Pep Rally October 14th

- Career Day - MS @ October 15th; Jen will update the MS Principal of the event will reach out to the honorees for their interest in participation as presenters.

- Homecoming Game - October 15th w/Lima Central Catholic

- Alumni Band - October 15th; Alumni Band members would like to set a tent up for visitation after the half-time show; the Alumni Band will meet with the new band director, Mr. Warkall this evening.

- Kiwanis Pancake Day - October 16th @ 8:00 - 10:30 am @ Intermediate School Cafeteria; contact at the school will be Tina Crim, Intermediate School principal and Shannon King, new district food service director.

- Connections/YMCA 5K Race & 1 Mile Walk - October 16th @ 8:30 a m - 10:00 am, beginning and finishing at the Middle School

- Hall of Fame Dinner - October 16th @ 6:30 pm at the MS Cafetorium.

Hall of Fame Nominee Selection for 2021 

Gene Bosler "61, Martha Bell Boyd "17, Lupe Campo "73, Mary Court "64, Chet Foraker "54, Debra Garverick "76 and Max Ness "61 are the nominations for 2020/2021. Letters were mailed to the HOF award winners or families. Dave Spraw will begin working on the biographies for the program.

Hall of Fame Dinner - October 16th @ GMS Cafetorium. 

- Doug Frederick @ AVITA will prepare: Garlic Rosemary Chicken, Roast Beef, strawberry-spinach salad, fresh vegetable medley, herb roasted fingerling potatoes, peach cobbler and/or chocolate lovin' spoon cake.

- New choir director will be contacted as the new Showtunes director to lead the alma mater.

- MS principals will be contacted for student support from the Leadership Committee team for dinner servers.

- Sandy will contact Miranda Jones to order the HOF Awards.

- Dave will order the plaques for the HS.

Marketing - Letters were sent to businesses. Checks were received from JenCor, Bowlin Real Estate, Galion Alumni Association and Donley Ford. A letter still needs to be sent to the past HOF recipients promoting the 2021 events and asking for sponsorship for sponsorship. An updated mailing list needs to be created w/all past HOF recipients. Sandy will work to complete this new spreadsheet by the August committee meeting.

Performing Arts Center - no planning was held in 2020 due to pandemic concerns; Brian will communicate with the Garverick's to begin again in 2021. Jennifer spoke about the possibility of a "Legacy Trust" as a fundraising vehicle for the project. School treasurer, Charlene Parkinson is exploring this as a possible approach to the project.

Other:

-Committee members welcomed Melissa Miller to our meeting. Melissa off ered to help with ideas for promotion of Connections' Weekend projects.

Committee Organization - Please continue to reach out for new members.

Support for the Committee - Jen suggested the possibility of presenting the "Connections & Alumni Committee" Tasks to several employees at the Administrative Center. She would like the committee to prepare a job description. Sandy and Brian will meet on August 5th to complete a draft for Jen and the committee to approve at the next meeting.
