Connections Weekend Planning Committee Meeting   August 11, 2021

In Attendance: Jen Allerding, Miranda Jones, Sandy Powell, Dave Spraw and Brian Treisch

Financial Report - Synergy investments for the quarter ending on March 31st, 2021 were: $57,046 in the investment account w/Ed Jones Trust Co. and $8,886.79 in the local checking account. Fundraising has resulted in an additional $1300 since marketing letters were sent to local businesses last month.

Approve Minutes - Approval of July and August minutes will occur at the September meeting.

Marketing/Fundraising - Checks were received from Bowlin Real Estate, Donley Ford, First Federal Savings and Loan, Galion Alumni Association, Galion Kiwanis, Hottenroth & Tilson Law Offices, JenCor & Snyder Gompf Funeral Homes. A letter still needs to be sent to the past HOF recipients promoting the 2021 events and asking for sponsorship. An updated mailing list needs to be created w/all past HOF recipients. Sandy will work to complete this new spreadsheet by the August committee meeting. Dave recommended that "Checks Payable to Galion Community Foundation" be added to the reservation and marketing materials.

Connections Weekend 2021 Events

- Bonfire & Pep Rally October 14th

- Career Day - MS @ October 15th; Jen will update the MS Principal

- Homecoming Game - October 15th w/Lima Central Catholic

- Alumni Band - October 15th; Alumni Band members would like to set a tent set up for visitation after the half-time show.

- Kiwanis Pancake Day - October 16th @ 8:00 - 10:30 am @ Intermediate School. Tina Crim, Principal and Shannon King, food service director will be school contacts.

- Connections/YMCA 5K Race & 1 Mile Walk - October 16th @ 8:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. beginning at the MS.

- Hall of Fame Dinner - October 16th @ 6:30 pm at the MS Cafetorium w/catered dinner from AVITA.

Hall of Fame 2021 Honorees - Gene Bosler "61, Martha Belle Boyd "17, Lupe Campo "73, Mary Court "64, Chet Foraker "54, Deb Garverick "76 and Max Ness "61 are the 20/21 honorees.

Hall of Fame Dinner - October 16th @ GMS Cafetorium @ 6:30 p.m. Doug Frederick @ AVITA will prepare: Garlic Rosemary Chicken, Roast Beef, strawberry spinach salad, fresh vegetable medley, herb roasted fingerling potatoes, peach cobbler and/or chocolate lovin' spoon cake. Brian Treisch will contact Darrin Harvey to provide Invocation and Benediction. MS Leadership Team will be dinner servers.

HOF Program & Awards - Dave will be meeting with Tim Wagner of WAG's Trophy House and with Beth Jarvis at A1 Printing for the dinner programs and the honorees' plaques. Leesa McCartney at Photorama will schedule honorees for their photos if needed. Miranda shared the HOF recipient award options for this year. The committee selected "Harmony" as the first choice w/ "Cerulean" or "Cobalt" as back-up award style. Miranda will place order for the awards w/Schillings.

Performing Arts Center - Jennifer recommended that members of the Connections Committee members, School treasurer, Charlene Parkinson meet with financial/bond Advisors to explore the feasibility of using a "Legacy" trust for this project. It

Other:

The Coordinator job duties draft was reviewed. Jen has a couple of employees In the Administrative Center who expressed interest in splitting the duties of this P/T Coordinator's position. Committee reps will meet with the interested staff to review the job description for best options. Meeting may be held next week.

The next edition of the school district newsletter will be distributed in the fall. Any articles need to be sent to the superintendent's office by September 15th.

Next Meeting: Wednesday, September 15, 2021 @ 7:30 am. @ Galion City Schools Administration Center.
