Connections Weekend Planning Committee Meeting Notes

September 21, 2022

In Attendance:Jennifer Allerding, Kyle Baughn, TerryGribble, Regina Jutz, Steve Melchoir, Melissa Miller, Sandy Powell, Mark Rontala, guest, Dave Spraw and Brian Treisch

Approved Agenda - Terry motioned to approve andSteve seconded, motion carried.

Financial Report- Dave distributed a spreadsheetoutlining the payments made from sponsors and dinner participants.  As of 9/21  $6066 have been collected.

Review and approve minutes- Minutes from the07/13/21 meeting were reviewed.  Dave motioned to approve, Terry made the second and the motion carried.

Marketing and Fundraising- HOF award letterswere mailed. Regina will mail previous HOF awardees' letters soon.  Jen will be securing the local business labels from the Chamber of Commerce for the marketing letters.

Connections Weekend 2022 Events - October 12 -15, 2022

New event - Fall Choir Concert @ HS on Wednesday, October 12th @           6:00 pm

Bonfire, Pep Rally & Alumni Band Practice @ Unkrich Stadium -                     Thursday, October 13th @ 6:45 pm

Career Day @ Middle School - October 14th

Homecoming Game w/Pleasant HS @ Unkrich Stadium - October 14th

Kiwanis Pancake Day @ Intermediate School - October 15th - from 8:00        - 10:30 am

YMCA 5K Race & 1 Mile Walk @ Middle School - October 15th - 9:00             a.m.

Hall of Fame Dinner & Induction Ceremony @ Middle School - October         15th @ 6:30 pm; AVITA catering

Performing Arts Center- Brian introduced MarkRontala from the Galion Port Authority.  He presented an update on the funding options.  If the Port Authority dedicated an Art and Recreation District in the Galion City School region, it would currently include the Performing Arts Center, a competitive swimming pool & the Freese Center (toinclude an indoor walking track).  By bundling these projects, the Port Authority could secure funding in a variety of ways, to include: new bond levy, PACE bonds and/or eligible grants,  Currently, the land has been donated for the Freese Center and $5 million have been donated from the Freese Foundation.  Mr. Rontala also shared information regarding Richland County's proposed recreation center.

Other:

Awards to honorees have been received and inspected, HOF Dinner menu has been submitted to AVITA, and floral centerpieces have been order w/Flower Cart Florists.

Craig Alguire will be taking the HOF recipients' photographs.  Most appointments have been made by HOF recipients.

Sandy will call local pastors to conduct the HOF dinner invocation.

Next year's Connections Weekend will be held Oct. 12 - 14.  Football game against Clear Fork

Next Meeting:Wednesday, October 5th @ 7:30 amat the Galion City Schools Admin Center.
